According to the news department of the 42nd Fajr International Film Festival (FIFF), the press conference of Mojtaba Amini, Director of the Festival, was held on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, at the Cinema Museum of Iran. The event began with the national anthem of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the recitation of the holy Quran. Then, a teaser of the present films at this edition of the festival was shown and Massoud Najafi, the head of the public relations office, answered the raised questions. Afterwards the posters of the international section including the Eastern Vista (the Competition of Films from Asian-Islamic Countries), Cinema Salvation, the Belt & Road Sessions, Palestine: “Soul and Breath” and 25th IFM, designed by Mohammad Reza Beidaghi, were unveiled. Saying that the Festival has entered a new chapter, Amini described this year’s event as a lively one because of the beautiful remarkable works, produced and created this year. Pointing to the number of 106 films received and previewed by the secretariat, he went on to say that the section of the first films with 12 selected works has been added to the Festival this year and the event is to start with four animations. It is worth mentioning that this year’s movies have been made in different regions of the country, with different geography, themes, and genres. Saying that the Fajr IFF is one of the most important cultural event held on the occasion of the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution, Amini added that the event did not have any official opening ceremony for several years, but this year it will start with a well-organized inauguration ceremony at the Vahdat Hall in Tehran. It’s agreed to concurrently have the festival films screened in 30 provinces from the middle of the festival. According to him 78 countries applied to participate in the festival this year with two international competition sections: Cinema Salvation and Eastern Vista. Two other added sections are: Palestine: “Soul and Breath”, a non-competitive section; and the Belt & Road session with focus on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which Iran is also a member of.
“We will host producers and elites in the field of cinema from various countries as of February 6th.”. Iran is a member of International Federation of Film Producers Association (FIAP) and FIFF is now among the top film festivals in the world, a breakthrough in the Iranian cinema.
Presided by Mojtaba Amini the 42nd Fajr International Film Festival will be held from February 1 to February 11, 2024 in Tehran.
