The 38th Fajr International Film Festival is scheduled to get underway in the Iranian capital Tehran from May 26-June 2.
Building on the success of previous editions, this year’s cinematic event is presided over by veteran Iranian film director and screenwriter Mohammad Mehdi Asgarpour.
The storied festival, widely considered one of the most prestigious and influential in Asia, was forced to postpone its 2020 edition amid the global pandemic.
According to the festival’s leaders, guests and film critics will sample some of the most highly anticipated international movies on the horizon this year. Produced in 2020 and 2021, the lined-up titles will compete for top prizes in the categories of International Competition (Cinema Salvation) and Eastern Vista (Films from Asian and Islamic Countries).
Other screening programs include Festival of Festivals (Jam-e-Jahan Nama), Docs in Focus (International Cinema), Special Screening (The Best Director Auteurs in Film History), Restored Classics, and Film Genres (Selected Film Reviews).
The Film Market of 2021 FIFF is also open for business online, where content made by a host of companies and talents, such as video production companies, producers, broadcasters, commercial enterprises and new start-ups will be up for grabs for distribution rights.
The Film Market’s Cinando will be launched by Shift 72 Company in 2021 as the complete database of the attendees at FIFF. It is the premier network offering film professionals the best tools to navigate the film industry for contacts, films, projects in development, market screening schedules, market attendees and screeners. Cinando exists in many prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Toronto and Thalin.
With director and screenwriter Mohammad Mehdi Asgarpour at the helm of 2021, Fajr International Film Festival is expected to herald stronger comebacks from Asia, Europe and the Middle East. It will run in different venues in Tehran from May 26-June 2.
